‘Explosion’ rocks buildings in Glasgow and smoke seen drifting across city

An ‘explosion’ in central Glasgow has reportedly rocked buildings and made windows shake.

Many people took to social media after hearing a loud bang that caused tremors.

One resident told Glasgow Live : "It was a massive big boom, it was scary and our house shook. There are loads of alarms going off."

Police confirmed officers were called to reports of a blast at a factory.

Another resident added: "Windows were shaking and you could hear house and car alarms going off.

"It sounded like a gas explosion but no one seems to know what’s going on."

Twitter user Chris Kennedy posted a photo of the smoke and said: "There was a ball of smoke rose from Clydebank direction, but within 30 seconds had dissipated in the wind.

"Didn’t see what caused it, this is what I saw after hearing the boom in the city centre."

Emergency services were called to an industrial site at 3.30pm.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We were called at 3.30pm to a report of an explosion at a factory. Officers are at the scene."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman added: "We are in attendance at the moment and investigations are being carried out."
