Eugenie gushes about "big sissy" maid of honour Beatrice ahead of wedding

Princess Eugenie has gushed about her "big sissy" Princess Beatrice – who will be by her side as maid of honour as she ties the knot today.

Speaking ahead of her wedding to Jack Brooksbank, Eugenie, 28, described how she has looked up to her older sibling her whole life.

In an interview at Buckingham Palace, she told ITV This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford: “I’ve wanted to be her at times."

She said: "We’ve fought over Converse trainers and who gets what…

"We’re best friends and I can’t think of anyone I’d want by my side more than her. It’s a great honour for me that she said, ‘yes’."

She added that 30-year-old Beatrice – who will perform a reading at the wedding – is the biggest supporter of "team Eug and Jack".

Eugenie was then asked by Eamonn and Ruth about the moment she will walk down the aisle with her father, the Duke of York

She told them: "It’s nerve-wracking and a bit scary and all the things that come with getting married, but at the end of the day you get to marry the person you love."

In reference to Jack, 32, she added: "And you’re going to be at the end of the aisle, and I’m going to be running towards you!"

Eugenie and Jack will become the 17th royal couple to marry at Windsor Castle, Berkshire, when they tie the knot this morning.

It is the second royal wedding at St George’s Chapel in just five months, following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ceremony in May.

During the This Morning interview, groom-to-be Jack was quizzed about whether his fiancée had become a "bridezilla".

He replied no, adding: "Eugenie has been amazing. She’s been incredible, she has the ability to do a million things at once in her brain, including working as well as organising everything to do with the wedding."

The couple, who have been dating for eight years, got engaged shortly after Harry popped the question to former US actress Meghan.

Jack got down on one knee in Nicaragua in January.

Eugenie said afterwards: "I was over the moon, crying."

Her engagement ring is a padparadscha sapphire surrounded by diamonds, rumoured to cost twice as much as Meghan’s rock.

The engagement was announced by Eugenie’s proud parents.

A statement, released by Buckingham Palace, said: "The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Princess Eugenie to Mr Jack Brooksbank."

In the This Morning interview, Eugenie said it was "love at first sight".

It was Jack who first laid eyes on the princess while skiing in Switzerland – before going over to her and shaking her hand.

"I thought what a silly hat!" Eugenie said of her first impressions of her fiancé.

She added: "And I thought who’s that? And you (Jack) came over and shook my hand and there I was all butterflies and nervous."

"I think I rang my mum that night and said ‘I’ve met this guy Jack’… and that was it I think about how it started.

"I remember being like ‘I really, really like this guy, I really want him to like me too’ and then you gave me this huge windscreen wiper wave and that was it, right, he likes me."

When asked by Eamonn to describe each other in three words, Jack said about his future wife: "She’s this bright shining light."

Eugenie, however, was not so succinct.

She replied: "Jack’s the kind of guy, you know when you’re lost at a party and you can’t find anyone to talk to, and you start panicking and you need help? He’ll walk in and he makes everyone feel so special.

"He’ll scoop you up and talk to you and make you feel a million dollars…you’re so humble and generous. So humble and generous – that’s two words…"

The pair will exchange their vows inside St George’s Chapel from 11am.

Guests have already started arriving for the lavish do – which is costing taxpayers around £2million.

Jack’s younger brother Thomas is his best man, while Prince George and Princess Charlotte have also been given starring roles.
