  • He then tried to pet the animal – who immediately sunk its teeth into his arm

This is the shocking moment a drunk man’s arm was mauled by a lion after he tried to stroke the big cat through the bars of its cage. 

The footage, filmed at the Rosy Walther Zoo in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, captured the man as he waved his arm through the metal bars.

A lion, who was lying on a rock a few yards away, initially ignored the persistent visitor.

But eventually, he jumped down from his spot and bounded over towards the drunk man.

A woman said: ‘It’s moving, it’s moving’, before adding to the man: ‘You’re crazy!’

He quickly withdrew his arm as the lion approached, but decided to reach out again to pet it on the back as his friends laugh at his antics. 

The big cat then whipped around and grabbed the man’s arm in its powerful jaws.

The witness filming the action turned away after the attack but the man is later filmed in a car with his badly injured arm

Several deep teeth marks can be seen on his blood-splattered arm as he is taken to local hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time. 

He had reportedly entered the zoo with a group of friends and walked close to the lion’s cage without zookeepers noticing.
