Dramatic surveillance video shows a trio of brazen robbers who tried to knock off an armored truck in Philadelphia – but dropped the bags of cash when a guard opened fire at them.
A red SUV is seen pulling up behind the Garda truck moments after it stopped outside a PNC Bank near the University of Pennsylvania about 10 a.m. Thursday, according to ABC News.
Two robbers — one armed with an assault rifle and the other with several handguns – grabbed the cash-filled bags from the back of the truck, but dropped them when the guard blasted away.
It was unclear if the robbers returned fire, but a bullet blew out the back window of their SUV.
One man jumped into the SUV as it sped off, while the other fled on foot, police said. Authorities are now searching for both armed suspects and the getaway driver.
“We both dove for cover. She went one way, I went the other,” a bystander, along with her sister, told local ABC affiliate WPVI.
“I couldn’t find her and that was very terrifying, very terrifying. There was a lot of bystanders at that point in time and people were running,” the bystander said.
No bystanders were injured and police planned to search area hospitals to see if any of the suspects were hit.
