Does he fight dirty? No eye deer! Stag gets an antler in the EYEBALL while battling for territory in Germany

  • Two fierce stags have been caught rutting in the German countryside, ferociously fighting over territory
  • The images show one of the of the testosterone-fulled stags almost taking his opponent’s eye out 
  • October and November are traditionally the time when stags compete for mating rights with females

These amazing pictures show a brutal fight between two magnificent stags.

Captured by wildlife photographer Ingo Gerlach, the images show the stags fighting for territory in the Sauerland in the Rhine area of Germany.

In one of the shots, one of the stags nearly punctures the eye of its opponent with its razor sharp antlers.

Ingo said: ‘In the rut of the stags, the strong stags are very active and constantly fight for their territory.

‘This often results in very aggressive fights which can sometimes be fatal. The danger of injury from antlers is enormous.’

Head-to-head or eye to antler: The stag on the left almost looses his eye after his opponents antler gets uncomfortably close

The antler was only millimeters away from piercing the eye socket as the pair fought it out in the Sauerland in the Rhine area of Germany

Locking horns: October and November are traditionally the time when stags compete for mating rights with females, with often deadly consequences

 A deadly stag-do: many rutting stags will  lock antlers in a fight to the death to compete for mating rights with the females

And he’s down: Despite avoiding some potentially blinding blows the stag has been overpowered and knocked out
