DOCTORS may be able to delay the menopause for at least 20 years, according to reports.
The surgery which can take just 30 minutes, will be offered privately to women up to the age of 40.
Medics insist the procedure will trick women's biological clocks into thinking they are younger than they actually are.
This means women could have babies in their sixties, The Times reported.
Nine Brit women, aged between 22 and 36, have already undergone the surgery, which removes a piece of one of their ovaries.
The ovarian tissue is frozen at -150C, and held until the women reach the menopause.
Once they do, it is thawed, and transplanted back in them, where it will restart their hormones, and delay the menopause.
The procedure costs between £3,000 and £7,000 for the removal and storage of a piece of their ovaries, and an extra £4,000 for transplant.
One patient, a 34-year-old mum told the newspaper: "I have to say I’ve never felt any pain, and it seems quite miraculous that it’s something so straightforward.”
Professor Simon Fishel, IVF pioneer, is leading the project.
ProFaM will be the first company to offer women the chance to freeze their ovarian tissue.
Birmingham University’s therapies facility has been granted a licence to safely store tissue on ProFaM’s behalf.
The HTA said it was “satisfied” that the required evidence in relation to the “preparation process” of the tissue had been provided and its licensing requirements had been met.
It told the newspaper, this was not an endorsement of the clinical efficacy of the treatment.
