In an emergency Commons debate over the death Labour’s shadow home secretary said the Home Secretary should have allowed the jihadi bride and her three-week old baby son Jarrah back into the UK.
She claimed Mr Javid’s refusal to help and his decision to strip her of her British citizenship was responsible for the death of the baby, who died of pneumonia in a Syrian refugee camp on Friday.
Ms Abbott stormed: “He has a responsibility to appear just and fair in the eyes of the british public and this decision which has led as night follows day to this less than three-week old baby dying, does not appear just or fair to the majority of the British public.”
She also delivered an extraordinary personal attack on Mr Javid – asking him how he would feel if his own daughter was forced to bury three babies like Ms Begum.
But in a strong rebuttal in the Commons the Home Secretary hit back: He “The death of any British child, even those children born to a foreign terrorist fighter, of course is a tragedy – but the only person responsible for the death of that child is the foreign terrorist fighter.”
Ms Abbott’s decision to blame Mr Javid for Jarrah’s death sparked fury last night.
Tory MP for Dover Charlie Elphicke stormed: “It is shocking and shameful attack on Sajid Javid when everyone knows that this Ms Begum decided to go to Syria to join ISIS.
“There’s no way that the Home Secretary can be held responsible for that or the terrible conditions that exist in a conflict warzone.”
