A Michigan family’s night out trick-or-treating on Halloween turned into a real scare when a dad twice ran over his 3-year-old son with a minivan, police said.
The little boy was expected to survive after suffering injuries to both legs, ABC13 reported.
Before the accident, the boy, his 7-year-old brother and their 36-year-old father — none of whom were publicly identified — were cruising around their Muskegon neighborhood with the van’s rear doors open and the boys’ legs dangling outside the vehicle. At some point, the younger boy either fell or jumped from the side of the van, investigators from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office told Fox 17.
Upon hearing witnesses’ screams, the dad hit the brakes and backed over the child. He then drove forward, running over his son a second time. The dad later told police he was driving 3 mph at the time of the incident.
Police were still investigating the accident. A spokesperson from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment.
