Scotland Yard appealed for the criminal fraternity to hand over the twisted raiders who broke into Peter’s home in Arnos Grove, North London, on Bonfire Night.

A fence, aka a moving man, is someone who knowingly buys stolen goods in order to later sell them on for profit. They act as the middleman between thieves and eventual buyers.

Peter is still unconscious in hospital after suffering bleeds to the brain, a black eye and severe bruising when he was dragged from his bed and beaten by the fiends.

The suspects broke in through Peter’s back door and ransacked his home stealing the telly and a few personal effects of limited value.

Detectives have launched a murder-style hunt for the savage culprits and urged anyone with information to contact them immediately.

The brutal attack comes days before the Remembrance commemorations, with the centenary of the WW1 Armistice being marked at 11am tomorrow.

It is unclear whether the suspects who broke into Peter’s home were in a vehicle but they are suspected of being local criminals who targeted the house because it was in darkness.

The Met Police said : "We urgently want to hear from anyone with information about the Panasonic television set stolen in the burglary."

An appeal to raise money for Peter has been launched by The Sun.

His son, Simon Gouldstone, said he found dad Peter lying on the floor next to his bed having been "beaten badly".

He said: "His TV was gone and the place was a mess – he was semi-conscious and he couldn't speak or move, he was clearly agitated.

"It was clear he had been beaten badly, he had bruises everywhere and was bleeding from his head.

"I called the police and they were there in minutes – I am thankful for them and the ambulance service.

"My father has always been supportive, he was a peaceful and supportive person.

"I hope that he can make it out of hospital.
Simon said his dad is a former postal worker who served in Italy during the Second World War.

He is one of two siblings and his mother Joan passed away in 2013 – making his father a widower.

Where Peter lives in Enfield, North London, has been dubbed a "burglary blackspot", with one of his neighbours saying they have been targeted six times in ten years.

Khalid Mahmood, 42, added: "The police didn't catch anyone – they even took our clothes away for forensics.

"It's bad, I do feel unsafe – I'm here with three kids and my wife.

"My next door neighbour was 92-years-old – she was burgled twice leading up to her death four years ago."
