Cops hunt for suspect after punch to the face kills man in the Bronx

A man visiting New York from Alabama died after he was punched in the face during a street brawl in the Bronx, according to police.

Troy Scott, 40, of Birmingham, was fighting with another man at East 169th Street and Prospect Avenue in Morrisania just before 1 a.m. Saturday, cops said.

At some point, he fell to the pavement and whacked his head.

He was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Scott was in town for his sister’s baby shower, CBS New York reported.

“My mother was calling him to see where he was,” his sister told the station. “A police officer answered the phone. He said, ‘Hey, are you his mother?’ She said, ‘What’s going on? Where’s my son?’ He said, ‘Your son was involved in an incident … and he didn’t make it.’”

Witness Edwin Tolentino told CBS he saw the fight go down.

“Hit him in the wrong spot,” Tolentino said. “He fell, hit his head and he was still trying to fight for his life ’cause he was sitting down.”

Cops continued to hunt for the suspect Monday. He fled in a vehicle heading south on Prospect Avenue.

The city medical examiner’s office will officially determine Scott’s cause of death.
