Chilling moment Alesha MacPhail’s killer Aaron Campbell returns to shower after raping and murdering six-year-old shown in CCTV that caught him

Aaron Campbell, 16, could be seen creeping back to shower in the early hours of the morning after abducting the little girl from her bed on the Scottish island of Bute in July last year.

A jury convicted the teen after a court heard Alesha, who was just 3ft 9ins tall, suffered 117 injuries and died from "forceful pressure to her neck and face".

Horrifically, she suffered “catastrophic” sexual injuries both before and after her death after the teenager "brutalised" her.

Baby-faced Campbell can be named for the first time after a judge lifted reporting restrictions protecting his identity.

While the teen desperately tried to pin the sick killing on Toni McLachlan – the girlfriend of Alesha's dad – chilling CCTV surfaced showing him creeping back into his home the morning after the murder.

The teen could be seen returning home about 3.35am in July 2 last year, going on a second trip out about ten minutes later.

He then returns about 3.52am – leaving again barely five minutes later carrying a torch and jogging.

By 4.07am he is filmed returning again – with Alesha reported missing at 6.23am.

A MOTHER'S TESTIMONY

The footage comes after the teen's mum told Glasgow High Court she was "surprised" to see the CCTV footage as she believed he had gone to bed.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, the mum said her heart sank when she saw the footage of him disappearing in the middle of the night.

And she knew she had to call cops when she spotted her evil son, 16, had vanished for an hour at the time the six-year-old was last seen tucked up in bed.

The mum, who can’t be named, said she was urged to check footage last July 2 by the aunt of Toni McLachlan — Alesha’s dad’s lover.

She recalled: “She said to me to look at 2am onwards because that’s the last time Toni saw her in bed.

“I looked and saw him coming home. I hadn’t seen him leave so I rewound it a wee bit.

My heart dropped a bit when I saw that. I thought, ‘Where’s he going?’

“He went out about 1.57am and he came back around 3am, so he was out for a good hour.

“When he got home, he stripped off, left all of his clothes at his backside in the bathroom and then he went out again in shorts.

“My heart dropped a bit when I saw that. I thought, ‘Where’s he going?’ I waited for my friend to finish work and said to her, ‘Look, I’ve gone through that CCTV from the time that you’ve said and he has gone out and come back’.

“She said, ‘Well, you better phone the police’.”

The mum grilled the beast on his mystery trips and said she knew his feet were dirty because he left without any shoes at one point.

But the brazen lad denied any wrongdoing and told her: “I think I was looking for my phone. I think I dropped it when I was out.”

The mother told how she eventually called cops probing the grisly find in Rothesay, Bute, to eliminate her boy from inquiries.

She recalled how the computer games fanatic didn’t seem fazed and “shrugged it off like he didn’t care”.

The mum said: “She was talking to him about DNA and he said, ‘Oh that’s a wee bit worrying. What’s DNA? I don’t know what DNA is’.

She was explaining to him and he said, ‘Oh that’s fine because I wasn’t anywhere near that little girl’.”

Detectives arrived at the house that night to quiz the boy.

Sadistic Campbell was revealed as a cat-skinning monster desperate for fame on YouTube with a warped interest in gory video games.

Chilling footage today also showed how the teen was clowning around with pals just a few days before Alesha's death.

The "evil" monster is facing life in prison – with investigators now revealing their fears he was a serial killer in the making who would have struck again.

A source said: “He’s an utterly warped individual and we’ve stopped a serial killer in his tracks."

"Billion-to-one" DNA samples matching the boy were found on 14 different parts of Alesha’s body – including intimate areas and her neck, face and ankles – and her clothing.
