Brooklyn judge orders prosecutor to cell for delay request

A Brooklyn supreme court judge jailed a prosecutor for 10 minutes Friday when she requested he delay the sentencing of a convicted murderer until the sister of the victim got to the courtroom, sources and bystanders told The Post.

Judge William Harrington ordered Assistant District Attorney Leila Rosini to the holding pen when she asked if he could hold off on the sentencing until the sister of victim Liza Millet, who was running late, could make a “victim impact statement” to the court.

Rosini was on the phone with Millet’s sibling — who was within walking distance of the courthouse — when Harrington appeared to lose his temper and order her into the cell, a source familiar with the matter said.

He then quickly sentenced Curry to 20 years while Rosini was still locked up and before the sister could make it to court.

Harrington did not return messages.

Officials at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office blasted the judge, saying he missed a chance to get pertinent testimony before announcing his sentence.

“It is unfortunate that the judge chose to throw his weight around by jailing a hardworking Assistant District Attorney for insisting that he hear from the family of the deceased victim who was stabbed over 80 times,” a spokesman said in a statement. “Ms. Millet’s sister and daughter had a right to deliver victim impact statements. We believe that allowing the family an opportunity to address the court is more important than a slightly delayed lunch break.”
