A British National Health Service worker was fatally stabbed in a random attack by a group of thugs believed to be wearing surgical masks — just days after his father died of coronavirus complications, according to a new report.
David Gomoh, 24, who worked in NHS supplies and procurement, left his East London home just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday to go to a nearby shop, The Guardian reported.
A short time later, Gomoh was on the phone with a friend when four of five men, driving a stolen silver Dodge Caliber, rushed out of the vehicle and ambushed him with at least two knives, according to the report.
He suffered at least four knife wounds in the attack, which lasted only about 10 seconds, the paper reported.
The Dodge, which was stolen 11 days earlier, was discovered about half a mile away.
Surgical masks and gloves were discovered near the scene, and close to where the car was dumped, authorities told the outlet.
Gomoh, a marketing graduate from South Bank University in London, lived with his mother and sister, who also work for the NHS.
His father is set to be laid to rest on Wednesday, according to The Guardian.
Detective Inspector Tony Kirk of the London Metropolitan Police Service told the outlet the family is “going through unimaginable torment.”
“Within days his mother has seen the death of her husband and son; his sister has lost her brother and father, both are now heartbroken,” Kirk said.
“David was a young man who had worked hard to put himself through university and, like his mother, worked hard for the community in the NHS. At this time we believe the only thing David did to be murdered was walk down a street.”
“I have no doubt this was a planned attack that singled out David because he happened to be in that area,” he added.
