British families waste £800 MILLION a year on streaming service subscriptions because they forget to cancel once free trial ends

Britons are wasting £800 million a year on subscriptions for online services they never use.

Amazon, iTunes, Netflix and others offer free trials but can automatically charge afterwards unless the new customer cancels.

Nearly half of those surveyed by YouGov say they have ended up paying, often because they were not notified the trial was ending.

Almost a quarter paid for two to three months. 

Martyn James, of complaints website Resolver, said: ‘All companies should notify people before they are debited.’
