Britain wakes up to frost as temperatures drop as low as -3

Brits are waking up to frost in parts of the country this morning as temperatures dropped below freezing in some areas.

Rural areas in northern England, mid Wales, southern England and the Midlands dipped to -2 and -3 with some parts being covered in frost.

The chilly evening followed a rather grim rainy day – but it’s better news today as most of the country will see the return of sunshine in a much nicer Autumn day.

Steven Keates, a Meteorologist at the Met Office, warned people to be prepared for a very brisk Sunday morning and to wear extra layers before it warms up.

He added that there are set to be clear skies tonight, apart from in Kent where it will be cloudy.

"Be prepared to scrape frost off cars," he said.

In London yesterday, temperatures hovered around 12 degrees, whereas last week the capital saw 22 degrees.

Today, parts of Scotland will be very wet and windy, with 80-100mm of rain predicted.

A yellow weather warning is also in place for Scotland all of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday due to the persistent and heavy rain expected.

However, elsewhere in the country, Mr Keates added: "Tomorrow it’s set to be a nice day after a cold Saturday, turning hazy and becoming a nice Autumn day."
