Brit grandad who ‘smuggled £1m worth of drugs into Japan’ collapses during trial – The Sun

A GRANDAD accused of smuggling drugs after falling for an email scam collapsed during his trial.

Frank Rodway’s hearing was halted when the 67- year-old became ill from stress and diabetes.

He is facing 11 years in jail and a £36,000 fine after being caught taking £1million of amphetamines into Japan.

But his lawyer Seiko Isano said: “Frank’s health condition is getting worse and worse given he has diabetes and the situation is so stressful.”

In February, The Sun revealed Frank, from Salford, was arrested after flying to Tokyo from Mali in West Africa.

He claimed he was given the bag by email scammers who had duped him into chasing an £8million inheritance.

His daughter Laura, 45, said she has had little support from the Foreign Office.

She added: “My dad will be falling apart.”

The trial judgment is expected next week.
