Love Island star and racing fanatic Chris Hughes reveals his top tips for the Derby Festival

FOR me, there's nothing better than backing a winner at Epsom.

The place has a proper vibe to it and I reckon I've found the perfect formula for the Derby and Oaks to get you bouncing from start to finish.

Oaks

Look no further than Anapurna.

This filly looked better in front of the girls at Lingfield than I did on the set of Love Island, winning the Oaks trial in style by six lengths.

She runs for the king John Gosden and his Italian prince Frankie Dettori and I reckon the pair can strut their way to Epsom royalty.

If all goes to plan, she'll travel into it nicely and quicken down the camber to see off the O'Brien brigade. At 5-1 she rates a nice each-way bet.

She should be open to plenty of improvement and I'll be celebrating with a large plate of carbonara if she does the biz.

Derby

This could be the moment for Telecaster.

It's great to see him in the race and fair play to connections for coughing up the funds to supplement him.

I remember being on the golf course when he ran at Windsor and someone gave me the word beforehand he could be something special – and he destroyed them!

He's doggy, tenacious and a proper little warrior who's bred to run over this trip – and I think he can win.

Without him in the race there would be a bit of a hole and my fingers are well and truly crossed he can run a big one.

Australia Day

I've been thinking about my favourite Derby winners recently and one that popped straight into my head was Australia.

Being as young as I am, my memory doesn't venture as back as some but he was an unbelievable horse that really stood out.

With Galileo as a sire and Ouija Board as a dam he was bred to win a Derby – and ended up winning two!

At Epsom you could see he was going to win three furlongs out, he was that good. He travelled like a dream, galloped all over them and stayed on in style.

He's one of the best horses I can remember and it's awesome to see that every runner in this year's contest is a relation of his dad too.

Flat racing's all about breeding and he was born from the stars.
