And a leaked memo reveals senior European negotiators want to agree terms on Sunday — before the Cabinet has seen them.
It boasts: “Deal made, nothing made public (in theory).” It says the plan will be rubber-stamped by the Government tomorrow before being announced amid fanfares in Brussels.
But the memo, circulating among EU ambassadors, has sparked fury from Brexiteers.
Amid talk of resignations, they accused the PM’s team of selling out by striking a deal behind their backs — and betraying the referendum result.
Former Cabinet minister Priti Patel raged: “This memo reeks of a secret, pre-cooked, backroom deal. If the details are true, it stinks and most MPs will find it totally unacceptable.”
Another senior figure described the proposed deal as “a pile of vomit”.
Theresa May will seek the support of the Cabinet for her latest Brexit proposals on Tuesday before talks with EU negotiators in Brussels.
Tonight Downing Street insisted: “Negotiations are ongoing. It is not correct to say a deal has been done.”
The document, which emerged in the respected German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung, breaks down a provisional timetable for Britain’s departure.
Mrs May is already at loggerheads with 11 Cabinet big-guns fiercely opposed to tying Britain to EU customs rules indefinitely.
Stewart Jackson, ex-chief of staff to former Brexit secretary David Davis, said it was “quite possible” another Cabinet minister could follow the example of his former boss and resign.
Mrs May’s plan is also fiercely opposed by the nine Democratic Unionist MPs propping up her minority government.
DUP leader Arlene Foster described it as a “dodgy deal foisted on her by others”.
