Boy, 9, suffers serious head injuries after moped ‘hit and run’ in Brighton

A boy was thrown across the street after being struck by a moped in a ‘hit and run’ caught on CCTV.

The nine-year-old boy, who was out on his scooter before the crash, is carried a few metres by the moped before landing on the road.

Police believed the moped was stolen and the rider and their pillion passenger failed to stop and check on the lad.

The youngster, who was out on his scooter before the crash, was raced to Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious head injuries following the incident.

The rider drove off, but it is thought the bike would have been badly damaged in the collision on Whitehawk Road, in Brighton at about 12.15pm on Sunday, September 16.

Sussex Police say the bike either silver and black or dark red.

A spokesman said: "Police are continuing to carry out covert and overt operations in Brighton and Hove, targeting known motorcycle thieves, and in recent weeks have made a number of arrests.

"This is as a result of listening to concerns in the community."

The unnamed boy has since been discharged from hospital.

Anyone with any information about the collision is asked call 101. There have been no arrests in the relation to the incident so far.
