Boy, 6, shot by masked gunman as he played outside his home in 'mistaken identity' attack

A DAD has told of his horror after his six-year-old son was blasted with a sawn-off shotgun at his home in a case of "mistaken identity".

Adburahaman Tukwalesharif said the youngster was with his 14-year-old brother and another boy when a gang of gun-wielding thugs approached the house in Wolverhampton.

He was shot as he fled inside – leaving him with injuries to his back and hand following the broad daylight horror on Good Friday.

Horrific pictures released by the family show the schoolboy in a hospital bed covered by bandages.

Adburahaman, 48, said: "My young son was crying, there was blood everywhere.

"Everybody is scared – me too. I haven't slept since it happened. I stayed downstairs on the sofa last night but I couldn't sleep."

'MISTAKEN IDENTITY'

His teenage son revealed three people were being chased down the street by the men, who were brandishing a shotgun.

When he heard the "first bang", he desperately ushered his pal and younger brother inside the home as the group of four stood on the pavement watching them.

He said: "They looked at us and then shot a bullet at us. They hit my brother.

"It was the first time I've seen a gun. It was a double-barrelled sawn-off shotgun."

The teen believes the gangsters opened fire after mistakenly believing their intended target had also fled inside the house.

'LOUD BANGS'

Bullet-holes can be seen on the front door and a jacket hanging on the stairs has been peppered with large pellet homes.

Neighbour Tania Goodall, 29, was indoors with her partner and children when they were alerted by the sound of two bangs.

She said: "I rang the police straight away. It was frightening. We've only lived here since August, it's a quiet street, but it's made us worry about staying here now."

Two people arrested on suspicion of wounding have been released on bail.

Superintendent Tom Chisholm, from Wolverhampton police, said: "I understand the concerns of the community and I’d like to reassure you that we’re doing all we can to establish what happened yesterday and find those responsible.

"Incidents like this are shocking and will not be tolerated in our city. We have extra officers in the area as we’ve increased patrols to support and reassure the community during this concerning time.

"Detectives are working tirelessly to try and understand the motive, which remains unclear at present.

"We’re determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice."
