Police were called to an address in Swinburne Road at 5pm today by the East of England Ambulance service.
They discovered a woman's body and a child, who sadly was declared dead at the scene.
The ages of the two victims haven't been released by police and it isn't yet clear how they died.
A police cordon is in place and an investigation has been launched. Next of kin have been informed.
Cops confirmed a 17-year-old man has been arrested and is being quizzed by officers in custody.
A Suffolk Police spokesperson said: "Police have launched an investigation after the sudden death of a woman and a child at an address in Ipswich.
"Officers were called by the East of England Ambulance service, today, Wednesday 6 March at 5.00pm to reports that a woman’s body had been discovered in a property on Swinburne Road in the town.
"A young child also found at the address was treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene.
"Anyone with any information is asked to call Ipswich CID on 101 quoting CAD reverence 284 of today, 6 March."
