Boy, 10, robbed at knifepoint and threatened with broken bottles while selling sweets to classmates – The Sun

A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy was robbed at knifepoint and threatened with broken bottles in a two-hour ordeal while selling sweets to his classmates.

Sonny Murray was left battered and bruised for "no reason" – only saved when a dog walker heard his screams.

Two boys, aged just 11 and 13, have now been charged with assault as Police Scotland launched an investigation.

Friends said the boy's money had been stolen, while his bike was damaged in the attack in Edinburgh last Wednesday.

He was dragged to the grounds of Liberton High School before the assault continued at nearby Glenvarloch Crescent.

It wasn't until dog walker Yvonne Jenkinson heard him scream that the gang fled.

A friend of Yvonne's said: "He was making his way home a group of teenage thugs took this wee boy away for two hours, made him fight with older boys and when he wouldn’t do it because he was terrified they threatened him with a knife and broken bottles.

"My friend was out with her dogs and heard the wee boy scream, so she shouted, made her way over to where they were and of course being the cowardly bullies they were they ran off.

"Sonny was taken to hospital to be checked over as he was bleeding profusely from his mouth, and completely soaking wet and traumatised, it is now a criminal investigation."

It is claimed the little boy had been selling tablet – a Scottish toffee-type sweet – when he was attacked.

A fundraiser page also claimed: "Sonny was attacked for absolutely no reason, he is just a child and was robbed and his bike was badly damaged in the process.

"Most importantly though this little kid was left terrified and traumatised. Let’s show him that people care and get his bike fixed or replacement."

And with the fundraiser exceeding thousands of pounds, his family took to social media to thank the public.

Sonny’s mum Lynda Murray said on Facebook: “Just want to say a huge thanks to everyone as they have done so much for my boy Sonni.

"I’m overwhelmed with all this.”

Police Scotland confirmed they had been called to reports of an assault on a ten-year-old boy on Wednesday, October 30.

They said: "We can now confirm that an 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old boy have been charged in connection with the assault.

"A report will be sent to the Scottish Children's Reporter."
