British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is self-isolating after he came into contact with someone infected with COVID-19 — seven months after his bout with the virus.
The 56-year-old leader was notified Sunday by government health officials that he was exposed to the virus, and said he will self-quarantine at his Downing Street residence, the Mirror reported.
“The Prime Minister has today been notified by National Health Service Test and Trace that he is required to self-isolate as a contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19,” his office said.
Johnson is not experiencing any symptoms, but his office said he “will follow the rules and is self-isolating.”
He had attended a meeting Thursday with members of parliament, including Lee Anderson, a Conservative party politician who later tested positive for the virus, the Mirror reported.
The prime minister already became sick back in March with the virus, which landed him in the intensive care unit.
It’s unclear how much immunity one gets after they recover from the illness, but scientists have identified a few cases of reinfection.
