British Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Joe Biden on his historic win Saturday and promised the two countries would remain close even after his fellow populist leader President Trump was defeated.
“Congratulations to Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States and to Kamala Harris on her historic achievement,” Johnson tweeted to his three million followers.
“The US is our most important ally and I look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities, from climate change to trade and security.”
The Conservative Party leader, 56, stormed Downing Street in 2019 with a similar message of bombastic nationalism to Trump and successfully pushed for Brexit, which will see the UK leave the European Union.
Both Johnson and Trump were diagnosed with COVID-19 this year, sending each other well wishes as they battled the disease.
