However, the pet owner has come under fire on social media with vet Maria Camila Gomez warning owners not to give their dogs beer.

She told local media: ‘Cats and dogs need a well-balanced diet and toxins need to be avoided at all costs as they pose a health risk to these animals.’

Gomez explained that alcohol is toxic for humans but we can handle it better than cats and dogs, making it even more dangerous for them.

She even suggested that the incident could be considered animal abuse and a form of ‘poisoning’ instead of ‘intoxication’, presuming the Beagle’s owners knew about the risks beforehand.

Seemingly harmless quantities of alcohol can potentially kill a pet, and like humans the substance can induce depression and affect the central nervous system.

One comment said: ‘This is animal abuse. They are unjustifiable actions that should not go unpunished.’

However, not everyone saw the prank as animal abuse.

One social media user commented: ‘The dog seems to really like it.’
