Bloxwich acid attack victim who had corrosive liquid hurled in his face claims restaurant tried to CHARGE husband for water to douse his injuries

Mike Glover-Johnson, 46, was rushed to hospital after his attackers threw the substance at him in Bloxwich, West Midlands.

His terrified husband Lee ran into the Chunky Grill restaurant but Mike now claims that staff inside demanded payment for water.

He also said that staff "threw him out" when he ran in after the acid was thrown over him while he sat inside his car.

In a scathing Facebook post from his hospital bed, he wrote: “Chunky Grill in Bloxwich threw me out while my face was burning with acid!!

“And demanded payment from Lee for the water that was saving me.

“Yes you read it correctly… hopefully whoever did this gets caught. And chunky grill owes me and Bloxwich an explanation.”

He told The Sun Online how his masked attackers forced open his car door before throwing the liquid and running off.

Mike said: “I was sitting in the car, on my phone when this guy opened the door and said: ‘Don’t move'.

“Then I felt this burning on my face. They just ran off and I think they got in a car.

“When it started to happen I thought it was some sort of joke at first. Then I thought it might be a car-jacking or robbery but they just ran off.

“My brain is trying to make sense of it all."

He was then rushed to hospital after suffering facial injuries and added: “I was very, very lucky – people kept bringing me water.

“The doctors said I will have redness for two to three days but I have to go back on Tuesday.

“They said I might have some scarring but said I will make a good recovery. It could have been much worse.”

Mike has now revealed that he has since “received an apology” from the owner of Chunky Grill who said the staff members will be “dealt with".

He said: “I have received an apology from The Owner of Chunky Grill.

“He was not at the shop at the time and he has assured me that the staff members that acted inappropriately will be dealt with. Apology appreciated.”

Sayed Hashmi, the manager of the restaurant, hit back at his claims on Facebook and said he wasn’t turned away from the restaurant.

He said: “We did give them water and we didn’t turn them away from the restaurant.

“I need to clarify the confusion that Mr Mike has NOT been charged for water but instead provided him with a couple of buckets of water as well.”

Police have launched an investigation and are now trawling CCTV in the area.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating an incident in which a corrosive substance was thrown at a man on High Street in Bloxwich this evening.
