A Missouri bar patron is under fire after allegedly ordering a “Trayvon Martini” from a black bartender, according to reports.
Michael Dargy Jr. lost his job as a security guard Tuesday as a result of community outrage over the offensive exchange at Buzzard Beach in Westport, news station WDAF reported.
The backlash began Monday night after the bartender, Alobar Bandaloop, shared a post on Facebook detailing Dargy ordering a “Trayvon Martini.”
“When he noticed the shock on my face, he decided to tell me recipe,” Bandaloop wrote. “One shot of vodka, watermelon juice, and it only takes one shot because it only takes one shot to put him down!”
Bandaloop said the white patron had a “smug” look on his face when he made the remark — a reference to Trayvon Martin, the unarmed 17-year-old who was shot dead in 2012.
“As the manager on duty walks away in disgust and the server on duty is completely confused why this interaction is happening, I’m still stuck in shock that this grown man would say this,” Bandaloop said. “I immediately refused to serve him.”
The bartender urged others to contact Dargby’s employer, Chesley Brown International, which announced Tuesday that his job “has ended,” according to WDAF.
“Chesley Brown International, an Atlanta based security services firm, was made aware of allegations surrounding the alleged racist remarks made by an off-duty public safety officer to a bartender in the Westport community,” a spokesperson told WDAF. “Once this information was brought to our attention we opened an internal investigation which led to his suspension and the removal of the employee from the property. While the investigation continues and remains active the officer’s employment with Chesley Brown has ended.”
