AOC to back Bernie Sanders for president at Queens rally this weekend

Lefty Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders for president at a rally in Queens on Saturday, his campaign said.

The progressive rising star’s endorsement could be a boon for Sanders, who has been eclipsed in the polls by Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Vice President Biden and sidelined by a heart attack earlier this month.

Sanders, 78, will have a campaign rally in Long Island City this weekend — his first since hospitalization — billed as a “Bernie’s Back” event.

The Vermont lawmaker teased that there would be a special guest at his rally during Tuesday night’s Democratic primary debate in Ohio.

His campaign later confirmed it would be the New York congresswoman, who was a volunteer organizer on Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign.

Other members of Ocasio-Cortez’s progressive “squad” Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan are also expected to back Sanders.

“I have had the opportunity to work with Bernie Sanders up close on major policy initiatives,” Omar said in a press release late Tuesday. “I have seen the values that motivate him—and his commitment to building a movement that represents marginalized communities across this country.”

A source told CNN that Tlaib would join her fellow congresswomen in endorsing Sanders.
