Amazing moment tiger shark swims within feet of beach to feast on bloody humpback whale carcass

The shark was spotted feasting on the 27,215-kilo carcass as waves crashed into it before trying to swim back out to sea.

The moment was captured on Ponta Beach, Mozambique on the morning of September 11.

After the tiger shark left, the carcass also attracted 30 tiger sharks, 20 bull sharks and up to ten dusky sharks.

Beachgoer Lorrayne Gaymer filmed the moment and said the sharks risked their lives to get their share.

In beginning the shark is seen shaking its head as it chews down on to humpback whale’s remains before a wave crashed into the pair.

The wave turned the whale over and exposed all the blubber with the chew marks.

When the tiger shark has had enough to eat it then struggles to swim back into the open ocean.

It is frantically seen trying to battle the waves as it swims out to sea, but the whale blocks its path.

Lorrayne said before the whale died there was an effort to rescue it, but they were advised to leave the whale be.

She added: “Ryan Daly, a shark researcher, estimates that there was a staggering number of sharks that came to feast on the carcass.

“The body stayed on the beach for two days and on day three we dragged it out to sea.

“On day five the carcass broke into pieces – some sank and some ended up back on the beach further along the coast.”
