Child star Iain Armitage heads up the series based on the early life of genius physicist Sheldon Cooper, originally played by Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory. The fifth season of the CBS comedy is proving as popular as ever, but unfortunately Young Sheldon’s millions of fans will have to wait a little longer to see the next episode.

Young Sheldon season five will be taking an unexpected hiatus from screens over the next few weeks.

The latest outing kicked off last October, and 13 episodes of the new season have aired so far.

Millions of fans tuned in this Thursday to catch the most recent adventure, A Lot of Band-Aids and the Cooper Surrender.

Unfortunately, Young Sheldon is now set for another lengthy hiatus since it headed on a month-long Christmas break at the start of December.

Fans should now expect the spin-off sitcom to return in late February at the earliest.

For now, though, CBS has yet to confirm an exact date season five, episode 14 will air.

The network will be undergoing a major scheduling shift in the wake of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing.

The games will take place between February 4-20, causing massive upheavals amongst some of the biggest American series.

Several of CBS’s most popular shows, including the hugely successful NCIS franchise, will also be taken off air.

Die-hard fans should still be able to get their Young Sheldon fix, as the network is expected to air repeats in place of new episodes.

It’s speculated the show won’t be returning until Thursday, February 24, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Despite the latest updates, there could still be some good news for Big Bang fans coming their way soon.

CBS has recently confirmed renewals for other comedies The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, and the US remake of the BBC’s Ghosts.

As new episodes of Young Sheldon consistently bring in well over 7 million viewers, a sixth season of Sheldon’s adventures as a pre-teen are all but guaranteed.

The latest season has proved a smash hit, continuing the child prodigy’s early years at East Texas Tech.

Meanwhile, Sheldon’s older brother Georgie (played by Montana Jordan) is causing trouble by dropping out of college, and twin sister Missy (Raegan Revord) develops a crush on her pastor.

In the latest episode, Sheldon finally made some friends at college after meeting undergrads Oscar (Ivan Mok) and Darren (Caleb Emery) in his dorm.

Long-running Big Bang star Jim continues to narrate the season after deciding to exit the original series after 12 seasons.

He has since gone on to receive Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his performance in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, and has reunited with former co-star Mayim Bialik in Call Me Kat.

Young Sheldon will return in 2022 on CBS in the USA. A UK release date has yet to be confirmed.
