The fourth season of Yellowstone sadly isn’t arriving on screens until the end of the year. With another few months of waiting ahead of them, fans have been formulating a growing list of theories after the Paramount Western’s dramatic finale left them reeling last year.
Fans of Taylor Sheridan’s hit series Yellowstone have highlighted another potential suspect for the attacks against John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his family.
In last year’s devastating season finale, John is taken out by shooters by the side of the road, while his children Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Kayce (Luke Grimes) suffer similar attacks.
So far, black sheep of the family Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) has shot to the top of the list of likely candidates for orchestrating the attacks.
However, the ranch’s corporate rival Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway) and tribe leader Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) have also been singled out as potential culprits.
With the first episode of the new season still some weeks away, a re-watch of Yellowstone’s latest outing may have unearthed another clue for one eagle-eyed viewer.
They recently posted their findings on Reddit and proposed Rainwater’s driver Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) may have something to do with the attacks.
Their theory highlighted a potentially crucial exchange between Mo and the Broken Rock Reservation’s new benefactor Angela Blue Thunder (Q’orianka Kilcher) as a hint towards his involvement.
User Sandmason_ wrote: “About 30 minutes in, Angela Blue Thunder is talking to Rainwater in his car.”
“She says to Rainwater’s driver, and war tribe member Mo, ‘Maybe you don’t ask permission. Maybe you go and make war for our people.’
“I completely glossed over this last year and am thinking he could be one of the potential attackers.”
Yellowstone’s season three finale, ‘The World Is Purple’, was packed with countless clues and red herrings pointing to the identity of John’s attacker.
A similar conversation between Jamie and his biological father, Garrett Randall (Will Patton), has also thrown up a red flag that he could be involved somehow.

While Rainwater’s trusted companion Mo has been an unassuming presence throughout most of the series, Angela’s comments may have persuaded him to take more action.
With the war for Dutton’s land still raging on, Mo and the rest of the Broken Rock tribe could have taken advantage of John’s financial battle with Market Equities to strike while the iron was hot.
John’s actual shooters don’t seem to have been introduced in the series before, but they may have been hired by Mo to track him down and take him out.
However, other fans weren’t so convinced, and argued Mo has always held a begrudging respect for the powerful ranch owner.
One viewer commented: “He told Rainwater that John was an honourable man. He helped John and Kayce get Tate back from the militia.
“He saved Monica’s life and wouldn’t hurt her by killing Kayce. I’ll say it again…..Mo is NOT behind the attacks.”
Mo has frequently lent a reluctant hand to the Duttons, even taking out Monica Dutton’s (Kelsey Asbille) attacker when she uses herself as bait to draw out a killer of Native American women.
As Yellowstone and Broken Rock are still technically in the middle of their reluctant cease-fire, Mo and Angela would have had to go behind Rainwater’s back to launch a covert attack on the Duttons.
Yellowstone season 4 will premiere in autumn 2021 on Paramount.
