X-Men: Dark Phoenix's first trailer is coming tonight

X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been a long time coming thanks to extensive reshoots and a delay from November 2018 into the early months of 2019.

After the teaser leaked this week, we’re finally due our first official look at the movie when the trailer lands tonight (September 26) on The Late Late Show.

The cast of X-Men: Apocalypse will return in director Simon Kinberg’s movie to adapt the classic ‘Dark Phoenix Saga’, in which Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) is corrupted by the power of a cosmic entity called the Phoenix.

X-Men: The Last Stand – probably the least-liked movie in the series – (in)famously made its own attempt to bring the story to the big screen, with disastrous results.

However, the dialogue heard in the teaser for the trailer that was posted on Twitter seems to hint that Dark Phoenix will draw on The Last Stand‘s version of the story, as it appears that Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) is once again somehow involved in suppressing the Dark Phoenix personality in Jean.

“What did you do?” says a female voice (Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique?).

“I protected her–” replies Xavier.

“From the truth,” interrupts Mystique.

Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Evan Peters will also return for the latest instalment of the movie, with Jessica Chastain joining them as a mysterious villain.

Full disclosure: we’re still not entirely sure whether it will be X-Men: Dark Phoenix or just plain Dark Phoenix.

The Late Late Show airs tonight at 12.37am/11.37pm (5.37am tomorrow UK time).

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be released on February 5, 2019 in the UK and on February 14, 2019 in the US.
