X Factor's United Vibe REFUSE to change their name for the third time after their mentor Robbie Williams said it was 'terrible'

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online, the five-piece boy band said they wanted to "stay true to their fans" who have adopted the collective nickname Vibers.

They've been forced to defend themselves after judge Robbie asked Twitter to rename the group live on Saturday night.

It would have been the third time it had been changed, after their original name, Vibe 5, had to be binned just days before the live shows.

Jon Guelas told us: "We took the comments about changing our name on board, but we've already got quite a large fan base and they like the name.

"We're going to stick with the fans who have supported us and stick with United Vibe."

Kieran Harrison added: "All our fans call themselves Vibers so we've got to stay true to them and give them what they want.

"We've got thousands of fan pages on Instagram. They're loyal to us. They're the only reason we're still be here."

While Jack Tisdale insisted: "Robbie was 100 per cent behind us, whatever we chose.

"We just told him that we want to be United Vibe, we love it, the fans love it and we just can't change it again.

"He said, 'I'm glad you're sticking to your guns and your gut.' He's over the moon with it."

The group – which also includes Elliot Horne and Blaise Duncan- were formed after initially impressing the judges as solo artists.

But they were criticised on Saturday night for a "flat" rendition of Miley Cyrus’ Party In The USA.

And the boys were dealt a further blow when their own mentor Robbie agreed with the other judges' harsh comments.

On Saturday night he said: "We've got work to do.

"There was a difference in your performance from the dress rehearsal to the live show.

"I don't know what it was but it was like the energy was sucked out of you.

"I think the microphone stands were restrictive. We've got to work on what songs you pick and I think Simon's right, we've got to pick a name for you.

"United Vibe is terrible."

The band blamed their performance on being "tired, overexcited and nervous".

But they are determined to return better than ever tomorrow night – and don't hold any bad feelings towards Robbie.

Kieran added: "We got bad comments from the judges, but the fact that it came from Robbie was more constructive.

"What they were saying was true. It was a good bit of feedback from him as our mentor."

While Elliot continued: ""It really upset us, but it's made us come together. We don't want to be feeling like that again this week.

"Robbie only wants the best for us. He'll only say it for the better of the band. It's improvements and tweaks, nothing's ever perfect."

  • The X Factor continues on Saturday night at 8.35pm and Sunday at 8.30pm.
