X Factor contestant Felix Shepherd reveals unaired scene following backlash against Robbie Williams' name question

X Factor contestant Felix Shepherd has addressed the controversy surrounding Robbie Williams’ deadnaming, explaining that his interaction with the judges wasn’t aired in full.

Viewers criticised new judge Robbie for his “inappropriate” question over the weekend, in which he asked Felix what his name had been before he had transitioned.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz, the 20-year-old singer said that he felt “indifferent” about Robbie’s questioning but acknowledged that some people may have found it uncomfortable.

“I wasn’t offended by anything he said, so that’s the most important thing,” he explained (via Female First). “I do feel people are entitled and would feel different ways about it.”

He also added that the TV show didn’t air the full exchange between Robbie and himself, adding: “It wasn’t shown that he did actually ask me beforehand if it was OK. They didn’t show that on the TV.”

Felix blew both the judges and viewers away with an emotive performance of Kodaline’s ‘All I Want’ in Saturday’s (September 8) show, adding that he hoped to prove he was “more than a transgender guy” after admitting the transgender community can be sometimes overlooked.

The X Factor hopeful reassured fans on Twitter shortly after the episode aired that he wasn’t offended by Robbie’s question and thanked fans for their support.

The X Factor continues on ITV.
