RuPaul just wrapped up season 11 of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

With a blonde wig and a hit single, RuPaul Andre Charles shoved his way into the public eye. He released a music video to his song, “Covergirl.” He had a role in the movie A Very Brady Sequel and he even had a cameo in the B-52’s music video for “Love Shack.” It wasn’t long before RuPaul had his own talk show on VH1, The RuPaul Show.

The drag performer started his reality competition series, RuPaul’s Drag Race in February 2009. Then, the prize money was a mere $10,000. The whole show was broadcasted with a yellow-hued filter and Bebe Zahara Benett became the first in a long line of “America’s Next Drag Superstars.”

Since then, the television show became a cultural phenomenon, earning a handful of Emmy Awards. Some cast members went on to host their own television show, collaborate with makeup brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills, and walk the Met Gala red carpet.

He’s always loved Judge Judy

In an interview with Fox 5 New York, RuPaul explained that his biggest inspiration is Judge Judy. He admired her for her blunt attitude and her powerful disposition. Even one of the contestants on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Bianca Del Rio, portrayed Judge Judy during the Snatch Game.

This isn’t the first time the drag queen expressed his love of Judge Judy. In an interview with Ellen, he explained that the one guest judge he wants on RuPaul’s Drag Race is the Judge.

“I would love to have Judge Judy on the show, I just live for that woman,” RuPaul said. “Who better to judge drag queens than Judge Judy? She would be very harsh but, you know, she’s a fair judge and she gives it to you straight. And that’s what we need in this troubled times, darling.”

In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Judge Judy responded to RuPaul’s love and respect for her.

“When I think about RuPaul, I think about three words — talented, brave, and always honest. He knows who he is. He understands life,” Judge Judy said.

RuPaul is an inspiration for members of the LGBTQ+ community

As one of the most prominent figures in the LGTBQ+ community, RuPaul often inspires others to express themselves and celebrate their sexual identity. He also won the Vito Russo Award from GLAAD Media, a media monitoring organization that celebrates LGBTQ individuals.

As a black, gay, drag queen, RuPaul shows fans that with a lot of hard work and a little bit of love from Judge Judy, anything is possible. After all, “if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell can you love somebody else?”
