Who is Michaela Coel and how old is she?

Michaela Coel, born Michaela-Moses Ewuraba O Boakye-Collison, is a British actress and screenwriter.

She is 30 years old, having been born on October 1, 1987.

The East London native is the daughter of Ghanian immigrants.

Between 2007 and 2009, Michaela studied English Literature and Theology at the University of Birmingham.

Afterward, she completed her education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Michaela attended numerous poetry events to share her work, took part in theatre companies and even released the album Fixing Barbie to share her poetry and music.

Little did she know that her graduation project at Guildhall entitled "Chewing Gum Dreams" would be picked up by Channel 4 in 2014 and turned into the comedy sitcom "Chewing Gum".

Her show earned her a BAFTA for Best Female Comedy Performance in 2016 as well as one for Breakthrough Talent for her screenwriting.

Who did she play in Black Mirror?

Michaela originally made her Black Mirror debut in Season 3's Nosedive episode featuring an intense social media scoring system.

Her character was the airport stewardess that wouldn't let Bryce Dallas Howard get on a plane and eventually got her thrown out of the airport.

However, Michaela's second Black Mirror appearance was a more prominent one.

In season 4's premiere episode USS Callister, her character Shania was one of the enslaved ship crew members on the Star-Trek-like set-up.

 

 What other television series has Michaela been in?

Apart from Chewing Gum and Black Mirror, Michaela has appeared in Law & Order: UK as a maid, Top Boy as the character Kayla, and The Aliens as Lilyhot.

More recently, her brand new show Black Earth Rising is currently airing on BBC Two.

Her character Kate Ashby is seen rescued from the Rwandan Genocide's aftermath and adopted by a British woman in the series.

Viewers will follow Kate's journey as she decides to return to Rwanda as a legal investigator with her adopted mum Eve to take on a case regarding the genocide.
