Who is Maya Jama and where is she from?
Maya Jama is a 24-year-old Bristolian presenter of Somali and Swedish descent who was born on August 14, 1994.
She was named after civil-rights activist and celebrated poet Maya Angelou because her mother read the famous poem, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, during her pregnancy.
Maya made the move from Bristol to London aged 16 in order to pursue her broadcasting career and set up her own YouTube channel alongside landing a gig as a presenter for JumpOff.TV.
Maya then became the host of MTV Base show, The Wrap Up, before moving on to host MTV Essentials and MTV News.
She's gained more and more popularity over the years, especially when she hosted a travelogue called Copa 90's Maya's FIFA World Cup Cities during the 2014 world cup.
What does Maya Jama do now and is she on social media?
Maya hosts the Friday and Saturday 10am-1pm shows on BBC Radio 1, and is about to front new show The Circle alongside Alice Levine.
She was also the host for Channel 5 star documentary Swipe Right for Sex.

Maya Jama is currently dating successful British rapper Stormzy.
The pair dated in secret for over a year before they slowly began going public with their romance in 2016.
The rapper dedicated his song Birthday Girl to Maya on her 22nd birthday, something which she said was a "great present because it will last forever."
She has made appearances in some of his music videos, including Big For Your Boots, and the pair have been making red carpet appearances together.
Stormzy has even said he's ready to propose to his other half.
He told the Sunday Mirror: "I’m still so young but I want to propose, it’s going to happen and I will do it right. She is so sick, she is the best."
When is The Circle on Channel 4?
The Circle started on September 18, 2018 at 9.15pm on Channel 4.
The show aims to question and shine a light on modern identity, how we portray ourselves and how we communicate through social media.
The contestants live in separate apartments and communicate via social media but never see each other face to face.
