What happens on The Great British Menu?

Professional chefs compete to create a dish fit for a banquet to celebrate a different occasion – this year it’s the NHS's birthday.

24 professionals show off their culinary skills in the hopes of being chosen to cook one course for the four course banquet.

One chef each week goes through to the final, where the judges taste the dishes again and award them marks out of ten.

The three dishes that have scored the highest for each course are then put to the public vote.

When is Danny Parker competing?

We'll see Danny on the first episode, which focuses on the heats for the North East region.

The Great British Menu veteran is taking on two newcomers.

Dan Fletcher was a protégé of Phil Howard and is now head chef at Fenchurch in the City of London.

David Coulson runs Peace And Loaf in Newcastle, which boasts 2 AA rosettes.
