Who is Charlie Winter who plays Hunter Owen in EastEnders and is he leaving the soap?

But what do we know about the man behind the killer character? And is Charlie really leaving EastEnders already? Let’s find out…

Who is Charlie Winter who plays Hunter Owen in EastEnders?

Charlie Winter is a British actor born on January 19 1996 which makes him 22-years-old.

Charlie arrived in Albert Square in 2017 shortly after his on-screen mum Tamzin Outhwaite reprised her role as Mel Owen in the BBC soap.

The role of Hunter is Charlie’s first TV job.

When his casting was announced he said: “'m so grateful for the opportunity to be on such an iconic show as EastEnders

"It still feels really surreal that this has happened.

"It's an exciting time for me and I can't wait to get stuck in and for everyone to meet Hunter."

The character was part of executive producer John Yorke's plans to overhaul the show with the arrival and exit of several key cast members.

As well as acting Charlie is a keen rapper and has a rapping alter ego called Chaz.

Is Charlie Winter leaving EastEnders?

Sadly yes. After bumping off his on-screen bigamist stepdad, Ray Kelly, an EastEnders spokesperson confirmed Charlie was leaving the show.

In a statement to Digital Spy they said: “We can confirm Charlie Winter is leaving and wish him all the best for the future.”

The Sun Online revealed on January 5 2019 that Charlie would soon be departing EastEnders, less than a year after arriving.

A source told The Daily Star Sunday: "It’s been decided that it’s the end of the road for Hunter. Producers don’t feel there is anywhere else for the character to go."

The axing will come as a surprise for viewers with Hunter being at the centre of one of the show's biggest storylines.

Hunter murdered his step-father Ray Kelly in gruesome scenes airing over the New Year to save his mum Mel Owen from being strangled by the gangster.

The source added: "Bosses are staying tight-lipped on exactly how Hunter exits Walford, but after he shot Ray dead over New Year it promises to be dramatic.

"Hunter will be on our screens for a while yet and there is still a lot more drama to come as he and his mum face the fallout from his actions."

The newspaper even reports Tamzin Outhwaite, who plays Charlie's on-screen mum, could even leave the show despite her comeback being heralded by critics and fans alike.

It claims an insider has said there is now less reason for Mel to remain in Walford with her son gone.

However it does also claim bosses would be "mad" to let her go.

Tamzin recently admitted she had extended her stay on the show after enjoying herself so much, but she failed to reveal exactly how long she would be staying.
