The seventh season of the BBC's hit period drama about midwives in London's working-class East End begins with 1963's record cold winter, the Chiffons on the radio, and a difficult breech birth. The tone is locked on now: cheekiness to offset the stiff upper lips, baby-powered melodrama, and a careful nod to historic issues.
