Netflix has a massive global reach which means that across the world, a certain film or TV show can get millions of people hooked at once. Of course, Netflix has its highly anticipated series like 13 Reasons Why, Ozark or Fuller House, but every once in awhile a random series or show hits the platform and absolutely explodes.
We’ve just gotten over the craze of Love Is Blind and Tiger King, but now, the film 365 Days, which is essentially Fifty Shades of Grey on steroids has everyone captivated.
The movie, which is based on Blanka Lipińska’s book has everyone talking, especially with regards to that absolutely shocking ending.
What is Netflix’s ‘365 Days’ about?
Based on Lipińska’s novel, 365 Days follows Laura (Anna Maria Sieklucka) a 29-year-old Polish woman on vacation in Italy to celebrate her birthday and to get away from her stressful life as an executive. After a fight with her boyfriend, Laura gets lost on the streets of Italy and is subsequently kidnapped by Massimo (Michele Morrone), a Sicilian mobster.
Massimo has been obsessing over Laura for years, but he’s intent on earning her love. After kidnapping her, he reveals that she has exactly one year — 365 days to fall in love with him.
If Laura doesn’t fall for him during this time, Massimo pledges to let her go back to her life in Poland.
Does Laura die at the end of Netflix’s ‘365 Days’?
Obviously, because he’s a gangster who has no qualms about legitimately kidnapping a woman, Massimo has a ton of enemies. During the film, Laura inadvertently causes a war between Massimo’s family and another mob family.
Then there is that awkward encounter with Massimo’s ex-girlfriend Anna (Natasza Urbanska). Knowing that Laura is a soft spot for Massimo, she’s also a target. Though the gangster had hoped for his fairytale ending with the woman he desires, the film’s ending has a dark twist.
As the movie comes to an end, Mario (Bronislaw Wroclawski), Massimo’s consigliere receives a phone call about an attempt on Laura’s life. This happens just as Laura’s SUV enters into a dark tunnel. The film ends with Massimo sinking to his knees and screaming, but it might not be as dark as you’d expect.
Here’s what we know about Netflix’s ‘365 Days’ sequel
Lipińska’s 365 Days is actually a trilogy. The second and third books are That Day and Another 365 Days. That Day picks up exactly where 365 Days left off and as expected, Laura survives the attempt on her life.
According to Newsweek, the book’s summary reads, “Everything would be perfect, if not for the fact that gangsters are all around, crime hangs in the air, someone is constantly trying to kidnap and kill her, and her best friend Olga blindly follows in her footsteps. Being the wife of the most dangerous man in Sicily has its consequences and Laura will find this out painfully.”
We won’t reveal too many more details of what’s to come but we do know that Netflix has already greenlit That Day. Production on the sequel was due to begin in Sicily in August. However, amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the film’s production has been delayed. We still expect to see it debut some time in 2021.
