What’s next for Ben McKenzie after Gotham?

Fans might be mourning the end of Gotham, but they’ll have a chance to see the actor again soon. McKenzie – who rose to fame playing the troubled teen Ryan Atwood on The O.C. – will appear on the big-screen in the upcoming drama The Report. The star-studded film focuses on controversial CIA interrogation practices used on detainees after 9/11. Star Wars’s Adam Driver stars as Daniel Jones, the Senate investigator who was instrumental in producing the damning report on the agency’s use of torture. Jon Hamm, Jennifer Morrison, Michael C. Hall, Matthew Rhys, and Tim Blake Nelson all co-star. It will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later in January.

McKenzie is also set to appear in Live!, about a disgraced cop who must locate a kidnapping victim. The film also stars Aaron Eckhart, Giancarlo Esposito, and Courtney Easton. The actor will play an antagonist in the movie, according to Variety. It’s currently in post-production.

Ben McKenzie’s net worth

McKenzie’s starring role on Gotham wasn’t his first prominent TV role. In addition to playing Ryan on four seasons of Fox’s hit The O.C. in the early 2000s, he appeared on five seasons of the critically acclaimed crime drama Southland between 2009 and 2013.

Those roles, on top of parts in movies like Johnny Got His Gun, 88 Minutes, and Decoding Annie Parker, have given the 40-year-old actor a sizable net worth. According to estimates from Celebrity Net Worth, he’s worth $13 million. McKenzie has also tried his hand at director, getting behind the camera for two episodes of Gotham.

How he feels about leaving the show

McKenzie has said that he’s spent a lot of time recently reflecting on his experience on Gotham.

“You can appreciate, which I’m doing on a daily basis, if not hourly basis, all of the relationships that have formed over the five years,” he told E News. “It takes hundreds of people to make a big television show like this and you do become a family, not necessarily a psychologically healthy family. Somewhat, but a family. People care about each other.”

In McKenzie’s case, one of the cast members literally is family. His co-star Morena Baccarin gave birth to their daughter in 2016. The couple married in 2017.

Season 5 of Gotham premieres Thursday, January 3 at 8/7c on Fox.
