What is Cheryl’s surname? From Tweedy to Cole to Fernandez-Versini – and back to Tweedy again

Since then, her surname has changed numerous times with marriages and divorces. But now she has returned to her maiden name and here's all you need to know about her surname journey.

Cheryl Tweedy

This is the Cheryl we all knew back in 2002 when she joined Girls Aloud aged nineteen, alongside Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh.

Four years later she became known as Cheryl Cole, following her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole.

Despite the failed relationship, Cheryl kept the name, until she met and wed Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini in 2014.

She took his name until the marriage ended in 2016, after which she ditched a surname completely.

But, after starting a relationship with One Direction singer Liam Payne and giving birth to beautiful baby Bear, Cheryl decided to go full circle and legally change her name back to Tweedy.

Cheryl Cole

Arguably Cheryl's most well-known name, which she adopted after her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole in 2006.

During this time, Girls Aloud were at the height of their career, being awarded Most Consecutive Top 10 Entries in the UK by a Female Group and Most Successful Reality TV Group by the Guinness World Records.

In 2010, Cheryl announced she would be separating from the footballer, and in May she filed for divorce, citing 'unreasonable behaviour'.

She continued to use her name for a number of years before dropping the Cole for just Cheryl when releasing new solo material.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini

After meeting Jean-Bernard in Cannes in 2014, the pair fell in love and tied the knot twelve weeks later, making the singer Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

However, their 18-month marriage was not meant to be, with the pair splitting in December 2015.

Following their divorce Jean Bernard accused the Geordie star of trying to ruin his name and force him out of the country.

However, since the incident, the Frenchman has praised Cheryl, and described her baby news as "a great thing".

After their divorce, the singer dropped the surname and simply became Cheryl.

Cheryl

After her split from Jean Bernard, the pop star dropped her last name, and was simply referred to as Cheryl across her social media platforms.

However, after the birth of her son with Liam Payne, Cheryl decided to return to her maiden name Tweedy.

Cheryl started dating One Direction star Liam at the beginning of 2016, and they had their son Bear in March 2017.

However, on July 1, 2018, The Sun exclusively revealed that Cheryl and Liam had separated after two-and-a-half years together.

The pair released a statement confirming their split: "We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways.

"It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family.

"Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."
