Prior to giving birth to twins in 1998, the Malletts agreed to pay teenager Zoe Tattersall to adopt her baby.

Zoe then went back on the agreement and decided she wanted her child back leaving the couple distraught.

In 1999, Judy was involved in a car crash that left her with an undetected blood clot.

A few days later, assuming she was unharmed, Gary attended the wedding of Ashley and Maxine Peacock.

Judy died suddenly as she hung her washing out to dry leaving her children and spouse in pieces.

Who played Judy Mallett on Coronation Street?

Judy Mallett was played by Gaynor Kaye Mellor, 50, better known as Gaynor Faye.

Gaynor Faye, was born in Leeds and has continued to have a successful career on television after first staring on BBC's Sharp End in 1991.

Gaynor landed a role on Emmerdale from 2012 until 2019 as character Megan Macey.

She has appeared in a number of screenplays such as Dani's House and ITV vet series The Chase.

She has co-written episodes for In the Club, which was created by her mother, TV producer and writer Kay Mellor.

Kay Mellor is also responsible for a number of hit dramas such as Playing The Field, Fat Friends and The Syndicate.

The Coronation Street star was the lucky winner on 2006's Dancing On Ice competition. Gaynor then released her very own Fit Friends fitness DVD with her skating partner Dan Whiston based on their winning routines.

Judy made her first appearance on Coronation Street on October 2, 1995.

She worked as an arcade assistant and later on went to work as a barmaid at the Rovers Return.

Despite being a fan favourite and having a significant role, Gaynor shocked producers and Corrie fans by leaving the soap after four years claiming she was ready to move on.
