THE Queen is set to make a special address to the nation, followed by a nationwide singalong to Vera Lynn and indoor WWII-themed street parties to commemorate the the 75th anniversary of the Second World War.

As we all sing together on VE day before the Queen's speech, what are the lyrics to We'll Meet Again by Vera Lynn and why are they important?

What are the lyrics to We'll Meet Again by Vera Lynn?

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away

So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day

Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Til the blue skies
Drive the dark clouds far away
So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them it won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singin' this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day

Vera Lynn's song is one of the most notorious tunes to come from the Second World War era.

It was written at the beginning of the war, and it gave optimism of soldiers going off to fight, leaving behind their families and loved ones at home.

The song sums up the sentiments of thousands of couples parted by the Second World War

Dame Vera Lynn and Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins have released a duet of the song to raise money for NHS Charities Together to support NHS staff and volunteers caring for coronavirus patients.

When is VE Day and how will the 75th anniversary be celebrated?

Families are being urged to celebrate indoors next Friday, which has been made into Bank Holiday.

The official commemorations will begin at 11am with a national moment of remembrance and a two minute silence.

As part of a day-long BBC VE Day special, extracts from Sir Winston Churchill’s victory speech will recreate the moment peace in Europe was announced at 3pm.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will also speak about the importance of VE Day.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has recorded a special reflection and moment of prayer.

It will be followed by a nationwide singalong to Vera Lynn's wartime favourite We'll meet again.

This follows the Queen's coronavirus address on April 4 when she echoed the lyrics of Lynn's song.

What time is the Queen's address?

The Queen's address will be held at 9pm.

The speech is expected to focus heavily on VE Day rather than the pandemic.

It will be timed at the exact moment King George gave a radio speech in 1945.
