In the streamer’s popular small-town drama, Benjamin Hollingsworth portrays Dan Brady, a close friend of Virgin River’s dishy ex-Marine and bar-owner Jack Sheridan (played by Martin Henderson). His time in the Netflix phenomenon hasn’t always been easy, and very nearly prevented him from joining another popular TV series.

Actor Benjamin also portrays the character Ote Keeley in three episodes of the Spectrum Original series Joe Pickett.

The Virgin River star is best known for his role as Brady, one of the major players in the effortlessly watchable Netflix romance.

By the end of the latest season, Brady had been arrested under suspicion of shooting his friend, Jack Sheridan.

Although it seems clear he’s being framed for the crime, the situation threatens to complicate his relationship with Jack’s sister, Brie (Zibby Allen).

Outside of the series, Benjamin has appeared in a number of popular films and TV shows, but Virgin River’s demanding filming schedule occasionally causes trouble for his career.

Chatting to Cool America, the actor revealed he nearly had to miss out on appearing in Spectrum’s adaptation of the Joe Pickett novels by CJ Box due to his tricky schedule.

“It can be very difficult to navigate,” Benjamin admitted.

“There was a point where it looked like I was going to lose the role because of the scheduling with Virgin River.”

Thankfully, the series’ producers made adjustments so the Virgin River breakout could make it onto set.

He continued: “Joe Pickett shifted its shooting schedule to accommodate me and I’m incredibly grateful.”

Produced by Paramount Television, Joe Pickett wasn’t as much of a smash hit as Virgin River, but has still proven popular amongst fans.

The crime drama follows the eponymous game warden Joe (Michael Dorman) living amongst a changing political climate in a struggling rural town.

He’s soon thrust headfirst into a chilling mystery when a dead body winds up on his doorstep.

Expectations for the series were especially high as the Joe Pickett novels come from the mind of CJ Box, author of the Big Sky series, which has now been adapted for Hulu.

Benjamin revealed he was so keen to join the series, he turned down a higher-paying role due to further scheduling trouble.

He explained: “I had to pass on another job that would have paid three times more to film Joe Pickett.

“But I wouldn’t have changed a thing as it was one of the most fulfilling projects to date.”

Benjamin portrayed Ote, a brazen and unpredictable big game poacher who has several run-ins with Joe throughout the series.

He’s also expected to reprise his Virgin River role, with both a fourth and fifth season of the Netflix drama about to go into production.

Virgin River seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix.
