Virgin River fans were delighted when season two returned to Netflix on Friday, November 27 with 10 new episodes. However, viewers who have already binge-watched them all will have been left in shock by the dramatic ending. Here’s everything you need to know about what happened, including some insight from the showrunner.

What happened at the end of Virgin River season 2?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Virgin River season 2.

There was plenty of drama to be had in the season two finale of Virgin River.

By the final episode, Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) had admitted their love for one another.

As well as this, it was revealed Charmaine Roberts (Lauren Hammersley) was planning to restrict how Jack could see his twin babies as he wouldn’t commit romantically to her.

However, there were also three huge cliffhangers, which have left viewers concerned about what will happen in the potential third season.

What was Doc going to say?

In the penultimate episode, Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson) gave Hope McCrea (Annette O’Toole) a new engagement ring.

The pair planned to renew their vows, which caused a lot of excitement around the small town.

However, Doc was acting shady in the finale and had to go to Eureka to see a doctor.

He was about to tell Hope some news about this as it seemed like there might be something wrong with his health.

But before he had the chance, their friends surprised them with a huge engagement party, leaving his news unsaid.

Preacher’s new responsibility

Earlier in the season, Preacher (Colin Lawrence) helped Paige Lassiter (Lexa Doig) escape from Virgin River after she accidentally killed her abusive ex-husband Wes (Steve Bacic).

He hid the body and covered his tracks, which seemed to be working until Wes’ twin came into town to investigate what had happened.

He warned Preacher to be prepared and told him how Paige was going to pay for what she had done.

Before he knew it, it seemed like the message had also gotten back to Paige and spooked her into sending her son Christopher (Chase Petriw) to stay with the chef.

Preacher agreed, but this is sure to throw a spanner in his plan to move to San Francisco for a prestigious chef opportunity.

Who shot Jack?

The show ended on a huge cliffhanger as Mel went to see Jack in his bar for some dinner.

The local nurse walked in and found a bleeding Jack on the floor behind the bar, having been shot in the abdomen.

Viewers were left in the dark about who was behind the shooting – only moments before, Jack had been standing in the kitchen.

He heard someone enter the bar and thinking it was Mel, he called out to them.

While it has not been confirmed, there are plenty of potential culprits who could be behind the shooting.

The most likely is Calvin (David Cubitt) or one of his men after Jack successfully got the evidence needed to arrest them.

Over the final few episodes, things had also been growing increasingly tense between them as Jack kept pushing Calvin for information.

Another potential suspect linked to this is Dan Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth) whom viewers will know fell in with Calvin’s men this season.

He seemed to be doing the right thing in the finale, revealing to Mel how he’d saved Spencer’s (Chad Rook) life.

But in the final few moments, it was also revealed he would be arrested too.

So could he also be looking for vengeance on Jack as a result?

The truth will only be revealed in a third season of the show, according to showrunner Sue Tenney.

She told TV Line how a third outing would “go through trying to figure out who shot Jack,” but admitted this could play out “over several seasons.”

Virgin River season 2 is available to stream on Netflix now.
