Giving men permission to emote, share and hug it out is all very well but why don't any of these bereaved bros think it's odd that the cute one-night stand (Allison Miller, 13 Reasons Why) that one of them brought to their mate's funeral is now hanging out with their womenfolk? And not just for the occasional coffee, but breakfasting with the grieving widow at her house! This strange set-up aside, this is a moreish relationship tangle around a compelling mystery.

THE MISSING

9.35pm, SBS

There are more than echoes in this superb British drama of real-life horror stories of young women kidnapped and held in bunkers for decades by evil madmen. The possibilities of fear and suffering that we naturally turn away from are pried open but in the most delicate way. As the formidable force for good, detective Julien Baptiste (the magnificent Tcheky Karyo), continues his slow march towards justice, there is a sense of hope, however desperate.

HARD QUIZ

8pm, ABC

Tom Gleeson's famously harsh hosting alter ego comes perilously close to cracking when he goes hard on a contestant who makes documentaries about Indigenous tribes. He recovers in time to lay into an early childhood educator and a pinball-playing surgeon. His gift with insults and his contestants' sporting natures are what makes this trivia show extra fun to play and watch. Even the American on the panel tonight gets Gleeson's combative sense of humour.
