'This Is Us' Season 4's Big Twist: Milo Ventimiglia Teases 'The World Expands'

The wait is almost over! This Is Us season 4 is returning September 24 and fans are eager to find out as much as possible about the new season. During a recent interview, one of the show’s stars, Milo Ventimiglia, shared as much as he could about a rumored twist on This Is Us, though he couldn’t say too much.

What does ‘the world expands’ mean?

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live last week, a fan called in and asked what Ventimiglia could spill about a twist that was teased for This Is Us‘ return and why the show’s creators said everyone would be talking about it.

As these things go, he has to stay pretty mum on any specific details, but did note, “I can’t give away those f**king answers. I really can’t. Like… it’s just… the world expands. The world expands.”

On how hard it is to keep show secrets, he shared: “It’s actually harder to tease because you want to be able to like, just something.” He hasn’t gotten in trouble for spoiling anything, however, sharing, “They’ve never chastised me or slapped my hand.”

The actor knows how This Is Us ends

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host asked Ventimiglia if he knows how This Is Us ends.

He confirmed, “I know the far-off,” but did offer a disclaimer: “But it’s also what I’ve been told,” adding, “Things can always change. It’s a newspaper, you’ve gotta wait and see what’s gonna happen.”

He continued, noting: “But what I do know? It’s — it is really, truly beautiful” and admitted the challenge of keeping what he knows secret, sharing, “It’s like carrying, like, you know, the nuclear football. It’s like, this is the thing that destroys the world.”

He added: “I’m just gonna shut my mouth and not say a word. Actually, I don’t know anything. I’m just gonna play, like, stupid actor.”

During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan last week, Ryan Seacrest asked Ventimiglia if people ask him if he knows how This Is Us will end.

He shared: “People ask me, but they really, truly don’t wantto know where the story’s going. They just want to be immersed in it andexperience it as they watch the show. That’s what’s so great about ouraudiences. Like, they’re dying to know, but they also don’t want to know.”

He added: “Our boss Dan Fogelman and the writers, they’re amazing. They have very strong ideas about how it’s going to end and we’re all aware of that, but that’s three years down the road… it can all change.”

Big things are happening in season 4

During an event called Pancakes With the Pearsons on August 10, This Is Us stars and the show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, gave some insight into what to expect with This Is Us season 4.

Fogelman teased: “I would say that there’s a lot of secret new cast members who are going to be a big deal, coming up, so that’s one part. I would say there’s going to be a big announcement or release about it at the end of this month. I would say that in the series, we have what I call little markers, little stakes we put in the ground that serve as grounding points for the whole arc of the whole series, and I would say our first two episodes of this season are two of those. So, it’s a big, bold, potentially polarizing — but in the best possible way — start to the season.”
