'The Young and the Restless': Will Robert Gossett Return?

The Young and the Restless has been on air since 1973. The daytime drama’s longevity is partly due to casting, recasting, and saying goodbye to characters.

Recently, Robert Gossett recently made an appearance on the CBS show, The Young and the Restless.  The 66-year-old actor joined, or should we say returned to, the cast of The Young and the Restless. In 2007, He portrayed Incident Commander on three episodes of the popular drama.

Robert Gossett’s major film and TV roles

Gossett has an extensive filmography history encompassing 75 movies and TV shows. He is a skilled performer in theater, TV shows, and films.

From 2005 to 2012, the seasoned actor portrayed Russell Taylor on all 109 episodes of the TNT crime series, The Closer. The show was highly rated and eventually led to a spin-off drama series. Gossett reprised his role as Taylor in the spin-off series Major Crimes. He played Taylor in 50 of the 105 episodes of the crime drama from 2012 to 2015.

His most prominent television role was LAPD Assistant Chief Taylor. Taylor’s expert ability to help solve complex crimes contributed to his series of promotions throughout the series. He began the show as Captain of the robbery-homicide division. Taylor’s final position with the LAPD was Director of Operations.

In 2018, Gossett played Mr. Morris in How to Get Rid of a Body (and Still be Friends). The comedy stars Kristin Dattilo, Nicole Burch, and Kristen Lynn. The skilled actor has also made appearances on several TV shows, including Chicago Med, ER, and Passions.

Robert Gossett’s recent appearance on ‘The Young and the Restless’

On September 2, 2020, episode of The Young and the Restless, Gossett returned to The Young and the Restless as Dan Szymborski.

According to Soap Central, Nikki and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) met Szymborski online via a video conference to discuss recent changes at Newman Enterprises. Szymborski seemingly had the best interest of Newman Enterprises in mind when he advised Newman about what her next steps in the company should be, and he informed her that many long-standing employees were unhappy with her decisions.

Newman saw Szymborski as a potential threat and defended her actions. She stated that the changes she is making would improve the company, and if employees are dissatisfied, then they can leave the company. Szymborski urged Newman to consider her actions and the detrimental impact her decisions may cause without the support of her employees.

Will Dan Szymborski and Victoria be allies?

Newman didn’t want to consider things from Szymborski’s perspective and grew frustrated with the conference. The Newman Enterprises leader ended the call abruptly.

Will Newman eventually seriously consider Szymborski’s perspective regarding her leadership choices for the company? Szymborski is just as invested in the company as Newman is, so it’s feasible that she may reconsider her stance. It’s also possible that Newman may continue to see Szymborski’s difference of opinion as a threat.

Szymborski may continue to advise Newman on improving Newman Enterprises, or they may be at odds against each other. Soap Opera Digest recently reported that Szymborski and Newman are allies, so maybe they will be able to agree on how to help Newman Enterprises thrive.

It is unclear at this time if Szymborski will have a recurring role on the soap.
